How do I prepare my home for a move?
Begin by de-cluttering your home. Look in every room, closet and drawer and
find objects that are unused, unnecessary, or simply no longer desirable to
you. Throw out unsalvageable items, and either recycle, donate, or sell other
unwanted items. Consider the size of your new home; will all your furniture
fit? If not, decide what furniture you can part with and either sell or donate
it. Approximately one month prior to your move, reduce your trips to the
grocery store and make a concerted effort to use up freezer items, pantry
goods, and the contents of your refrigerator.

What are the steps I take if I want to use your services?
Call or email us and we will arrange a time to come to your home. During that
meeting we will discuss your needs, your moving plans and your schedule. We
will then take a systematic tour through all the rooms of your home and
calculate the number of boxes it will take for your move. At that point we will
make note of any unique circumstances or special requests associated with your
possessions. Next, we will prepare an estimate. Once you have approved, we will
confirm a date, secure a deposit for supplies, and see you on moving day!

Can we hire you for partial services - say just to pack or unpack?
We do plenty of jobs where our only role is to pack up a home and make it ready
for the moving company. In some situations, we can also be hired just for
unpacking services - such as after renovations, or after the movers have gone
and a home-dweller feels overwhelmed with the task of unpacking. However, if we
have not been hired to pack the contents of a home, we cannot guarantee the
safe arrival of those contents. In other words, our insurance does not cover
any loss or breakage if Green Way Packers did not do the packing.
|
How do I make sure I can find what I need the day we move in?
Prepare a box of 'essentials' that will stay with you on moving day. In that
box include the following: a change of clothes, towels, sleeping bag or
blankets, basic toiletries, a set of eating utensils for every family member, a
favourite toy (if applicable), a flashlight, and toilet paper! We also
recommend you have important papers or documents in your possession.
|
How do the movers know where the boxes should go in my new house?
Green Way Packers uses pre-printed labels for each box packed. The label is
marked with the room the box is coming from as well as a brief description of
its contents so that whoever does the unpacking can prioritize which boxes to
unpack first. For instance, a label might read KITCHEN - dishes or MASTER
BEDROOM - top of dresser items.
|
Do you also load boxes into moving trucks?
No, for loading and transporting boxes you will need to hire a moving company.
Our expertise and experience is in packing and unpacking. If you require help
selecting a moving company, we work in partnership with some local companies
and can put you in touch with them.
|
Can you pack up my Grandma's China?
Absolutely, we are trained in wrapping and securing fragile items, and will
make the appropriate time allowance to do it properly. Understandably, if you
are still nervous about having someone else handle your special items, we can
provide the supplies so you can pack these items yourself. However, rest
assured, we are experienced and confident we can handle Grandma's China.
|
Do I have to be present when you pack?
No, in fact we encourage homeowners to go off and make the most of our working
time. We will come equipped with our notes and any specific packing
instructions obtained from our earlier visit. If instructions have changed, all
we require are some notes from you indicating new instructions. Remember, when
you hire Green Way Packers, you free yourself up to do other important things!
|
My husband wants to know if you will pack our garage.
Generally, we concentrate on personal possessions in the home. However, if the
garage is reasonably organized, we will make exceptions and box up
light-weight, non-toxic garage items. Please note: moving companies will not
transport toxic or flammable items, so alternate arrangements will have to be
made for transportation or disposal of these items prior to moving day.
|
How do I know my possessions are secure if they are put into storage?
Green Way Packers wraps all items in generous amounts of packing paper and
ensures all edges of the boxes are securely sealed with clear tape. We also use
our own pre-printed packing tape that no one else has access to, so if boxes
were ever tampered with, this would be evident. Reputable storage facilities
are generally safe and secure.
